I was contacted by D to photograph a surprise proposal during their spring trip to Washington, D.C. After a call to talk through location ideas, we landed on the Carlyle House Gardens, a setting that offers both quiet charm and easy access to some of Old Town Alexandria’s most iconic backdrops, from historic streets to the waterfront and the fun “I Love You” art display sign.
Blending in on a nearby park bench, I watched as D and L wandered into the gardens, capturing the moment he asked her to be his forever. After giving them time to soak in the excitement, we continued through nearby alleyways and garden paths for a series of relaxed “just engaged” portraits. What began as a simple walk soon unfolded into one of life’s unforgettable moments beneath the gazebo where anticipation turned into celebration.
As the afternoon continued, we wandered along cobblestone streets, quiet garden corners, and sunlit streets, allowing the experience to evolve into a mini engagement session. The result is a collection of imagery that feels both joyful and intimate — a reflection of place, season, and the beginning of a new chapter.
